Our How

RSI’s operating philosophy is defined by a simple list of Top Tenets that the company was founded on. These tenets guide how we do business, how we interact with clients, and how we treat each other.

Our culture promotes a balanced Work Hard, Play Hard mentality that respects the connection between productivity and wellness.

We care about the work we do to leave things better than we found them. Our team is committed to Always Deliver Quality and provide solutions that reach beyond the status quo to Exceed Client Expectations and support client success.
RESPONSIBILITY
Manage Your Risk is a hallmark of a healthy company. We are reminded to Chew Your Food and Stay Within Your Headlights…carefully operating within our capabilities and only signing up if we can protect the health of our people, clients, and projects.
LEGACY
Build a Strong Foundation, and your company will thrive. Protect Your Reputation, and your company will endure. RSI has built a foundation and legacy for caring about each other, performing to the highest standard, following through on our promises, and doing the right thing.

Where We Come From

RSI was founded as a Woman-Owned Small Business in 1996 to support the Department of Energy cleanup mission in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. From the beginning, the owners worked alongside the field and office staff, and the team developed a bond that was as strong as family. This talented (and maybe a little quirky) group laid the foundation for what is now uniquely RSI. A culture that stands out from the rest in style and performance.

We began in doublewide trailers at a former federal defense and energy site known as K-25 (now a National Historic Site) providing regulatory expertise and quickly grew our services to include characterization, monitoring, renewable energy, and project management. Over the years, we have earned a reputation for being easy to work with and helping our clients achieve success through a long-term partnering approach. This led to our initial growth beyond our home in Oak Ridge to projects and sites across the region.

In 2016, RSI joined the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC) family of companies through its acquisition by ASRC Industrial (AIS). Becoming part of the AIS enterprise enabled us to expand into new markets and grow our service portfolio. It also led to the creation of the RSI operating group, a collection of high-performing companies that now represents the AIS environmental services line of business. Under Alaska Native Corporation ownership, RSI companies are classified as Small Disadvantaged Businesses (SDBs) and offer 8(a) advantages.

Today, the RSI group is a national, full-service environmental collective serving clients at all phases of cleanup from strategy to stewardship. From our humble beginnings, we have grown considerably. But we will never forget where we came from. Our history and legacy are the heart of our identity.

Do it safely or not at all.

Simply put, a safe job is the only job worth performing. Do it safely or not at all. This value is upheld at the highest level of ASRC Industrial and carried through by every employee across the enterprise.

RSI’s safety philosophy is reflected through our promise to always protect what matters…from the field to our families to our professional commitment to protect human health and the environment. RSI maintains an impeccable safety record with a consistent Total Recordable Case rate significantly below the industry average. With much of our work taking place at sites with unique hazards and environmental conditions, our safety program prioritizes active worker engagement, education, compliance, and performance tracking for continuous improvement.

STOP WORK AUTHORITY

As a part of RSI’s philosophy to “Do it Safely or Not at All,” our STOP WORK AUTHORITY program strongly encourages all employees to speak up if they observe an unsafe act or condition. We strive to create a psychologically safe environment where employees are comfortable expressing their concerns, asking questions, and admitting mistakes—all without fear of reprisal.

Our Parent Company

Headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, ASRC Industrial (AIS) is a people-centric organization that has grown quickly to become a leading provider of environmental, industrial, and construction services throughout the United States and select locations abroad. Unified by Purpose, the AIS family includes a collective of exceptional operating companies aligned by a shared enterprise purpose—to leave things better than we found them.

The AIS family provides safe, innovative solutions and services from environmental consulting, remediation, and demolition to specialty craft, professional, and technical services. We serve federal and industrial clients across multiple markets, such as environmental cleanup, management and operations, power generation, pulp and paper, agriculture/food, petrochemical, and technology.

AIS is wholly owned by Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC), an Alaska Native Corporation. By virtue of ASRC ownership, the AIS family is eligible to participate in the Small Business Administration 8(a) Disadvantaged Business Program. Additionally, each AIS company is considered a Small Disadvantaged Business and Minority Business Enterprise. These attributes allow us to partner with clients to meet their diversity contracting goals while concurrently providing benefits for the more than 14,000 Iñupiat owners of ASRC.

ASRC was established in 1972 when the United States Congress passed the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, which settled claims made by Alaska Natives. ASRC represents more than 14,000 Iñupiat and works toward enhancing Iñupiat cultural and economic freedoms. Today, through expansion and diversification, ASRC and its family of companies operate six diverse major business segments: government services, energy support services, industrial services, petroleum refining and marketing, construction, and resource development.
